Rising British girl group XO have paid tribute to the Spice Girls with a show-stopping live rendition of their 1996 classic “Say You’ll Be There” at BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale studios.
The group stopped by Radio 1’s Future Pop show, hosted by Maia Beth, to perform the iconic No. 1 single in celebration of the Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary. Putting their own contemporary spin on the track, Summer, Shali, Zoe, Emmy and Reanna delivered a vocal-heavy rendition that showcased the group’s soaring harmonies and individual voices – with their reinterpretation of Melanie C’s climactic closing ad-libs proving a particular highlight.
The performance has already earned the ultimate seal of approval, with the Spice Girls themselves sharing XO’s rendition across their official social media channels.
For a young group carving out their own place in the British pop landscape, the nod from one of the genre’s most influential girl groups marks a significant moment.

The month-long series of free shows sees XO take over London’s Colours throughout August, creating an intimate space for fans while shining a spotlight on some of the capital’s most exciting emerging talent. Alongside live performances, the residency will give fans their first opportunity to hear unreleased material from ‘Need To Know’ ahead of its October release.
Due out October 16 via Polydor Label Group, the mini LP represents the next major chapter for XO as they continue their rapid rise.
Following a performance that has now caught the attention of the Spice Girls themselves, the group look set to make their own mark on the next generation of British pop.
